Food and agriculture at european level
Behind each packed dish and each meal eaten in a hurry, in a canteen or fast food, there is an industrial activity that consumes energy and natural resources, producing gases harmful to the environment. First of all CO2, the main responsible of greenhouse effect.
Intensive agriculture characterized by mechanization and use of agro-chemicals (mineral fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides) and reliance on high external inputs (chemicals, irrigation, fossil fuels) have led to high environmental and social costs.
By adopting simple actions and by selecting with care the food we buy it is possible to reduce emissions by two thirds without giving up the pleasure of good food. Choose organic food is an effective alternative to mitigate environmental impacts and at the same time reduce health risks. Organic systems use about one-third less fossil fuel energy than that used in conventional systems.
The radio campaign will increase consumers awareness and help them to make more informed choices.
