Green Home at european level
Buildings energy use contributes approximately for 40% of Europe's energy needs, while traffic for 32% and industry for 28%. For almost 30 years homeowners have been remodelling their homes to improve aesthetics, increase space, make home more kid-friendly or raise their quality of life. Something is changing: in many Member States owners need to state the environmental impact and the energy efficiency of their house through labelling when selling or renting.
The building sector is also the one where great result in energy saving is achieveble: many existing buildings, most in eastern and southern Europe, have no insulation at all or only 25-50 mm, while new standard buildings use between 175 and 350 mm and new low energy buildings between 300 to 600 mm.
The radio campaign will provide extensive and practical information both on existing and new buildings; furthermore will inform citizens on best practices, policies and economic supports available locally.
