Heating and Cooling at european level

Even if energy consumption for space heating per m² decreased by around 12% from 1990 to 2005 in all Member States, with the exception of Greece and Italy, space-heating is still by far the largest household energy end-use in the EU (accounting by 69 %) followed by water heating and appliances/lighting. The proportion used for heating, based on estimates, largely depends on factors such as the level of thermal efficiency of the building, the degree of use of on-site renewables and climatic conditions.

What seems to be very clear from a more detailed analysis (reported by Odyssee) is that energy efficiency in space heating is affected by the following two factors: progress in building energy efficiency and occupants behaviour. The radio campiagn will focus both aspects.

The radio campaign will support consumers with practical information on the following renewable and efficient technologies: passive systems for cooling, efficient air cooling systems, central and autonomous traditional heating systems, solar panels and condensing boilers, micro-cogeneration systems, biomass heatings systems, heat-pumps (geothermal, electric and gas).
